I never could get the hang of Thursdays

I’ve watched this Christmas special twice now and it’s still funny. I haven’t seen the Royle Family in ages, forgot how good it was.

You can watch it here on the iPlayer.

Oh, yeah I’ve not been on much recently. Couldn’t get onto WordPress. Turns out I just needed to reboot my router, duh!

People on the train

It’s not often I get chatting to someone on the train, sometimes it’s good and sometimes it isn’t. Today I was talking to a bloke called Lewis who worked for Mercedes.

He looked older than 18, and he had a better job than an 18 year-old needs. He spent his money, lives with his girlfriend (fiance*) and we went outside for a cigarette when we got chucked off the train at Leeds. It was a bit random considering we’d only just met, but you’ve got to make friends somewhere.

Anyway, thanks for the company mate.

From The Basement

From The Basement is a website featuring rather intimate live sessions by bands without the usual constraints and hassles of doing promotional work. The only advertising is for the band and it’s like a breath of fresh air. From the website;

“My own personal goal is that in the future some of these performances might be seen as the truest representation of the state of their artists work, captured in a way that lets their talents speak without the interference of presenters, or audiences.”

There’s some really great bands on there, and really good recordings. My recommended videos are

The Kills – Tape Song (Look look look she’s gorgeous)

Neil Hannon – Our Mutual Friend (He used to be a choir boy you know)

Radiohead- The Gloaming (Thom Yorke piloting a spaceship)

Jarvis Cocker – Black Magic (For his dancing)

A Kind Of Dignity

I present to you the photography of Steve Harrison. Unfortunately he died last year, I’m glad his work has been brought to light.

Have a look at the flikr slideshow thing.

The themes are social injustice, the gap between rich and poor. I suppose it’s his way of seeing it that I like, I don’t know, I can’t put my finger on it.

There’s a BBC article as well.

I hate advertising, but it amuses me.

Have a look at this website. (It may take a second or two to load)

The scary thing is, someone will see this and think “yeah, that’s cool, I want to smell like I ride on a jet ski in a suit”.

This is a pretty good summary of every RnB video there is at the moment as well, you watch, most of them are something like that. Get a suit, get some women, get some sunglasses and a jet ski/helicopter/yacht, and hey-presto, RnB music video.

I didn’t bother to check how much it cost, but I’m going to estimate about $4,000.

This goes into my new “Tripe” category.
