I never could get the hang of Thursdays

BBC four have made a documentary about the battle of Culloden in a very new and interesting way.

If you watch many history documentary things, it’s normally a historian walking around, saying “this is where so and so happened”,  some snazzy computer animations and lots of old pictures.

“Written and directed by Peter Watkins, it is presented as a news report from the battlefield. English soldiers and their Highland counterparts are interviewed as the film reconstructs one of the country’s bloodiest battles.”

I find it much more engaging than watching Simon Schama walking around an abbey talking. It makes it a lot more believable and gives you a very personal account.

It’s not “new” as I described. It was made in the 60s.
